About

Alex Gear - Registered Nutritional Therapist

I'm Alex Gear, a London based registered nutritional therapist, nutritionist and health coach. I have been involved in the food industry for the past 20 years. Prior to working as a nutritional therapist, I have had considerable experience as a chef, cookery teacher and lecturer. During this time, my underlying passion has always been about health and nutrition. It gives me great pleasure to help people overcome their health issues so that they look and feel better.

Having overcome my own health issues, I really do understand how my clients feel when they first come to see me. I work very closely with my clients to ensure that they take positive steps to a healthier life. Clients often lack confidence and may often feel very daunted at the prospect of making changes. As a health coach and nutritionist, I support and give my clients the tools to be able to maintain long-term health with renewed confidence and enthusiasm. I combine my understanding, enthusiasm and passion with my love of food to help people become the best versions of themselves.

My vast experience in the food industry gives me a deeper understanding of menu planning which enables me to provide clients with the tools that they need in order to achieve their health goals. Additionally, I advise my clients on what food to buy and how to prepare and cook meals, so that they can fit this into their busy lives.

I follow the principles of Functional Medicine and so my aim is to get to the root cause of my clients’ issues. I treat everyone as an individual, as we are all different and have different sets of circumstances.

Nutrition Qualifications
I am a fully qualified registered nutritional therapist, and I completed my 3 year training in Nutrition and Naturopathy at the renowned The College of Naturopathic Medicine where I was trained in the principles of functional medicine, a science-based method that assesses the underlying causes of symptoms.

I am a member of The British Association for Applied Nutrition and Nutritional Therapy (BANT) , The Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC) and The Association of Naturopathic Practitioners (ANP).

I strongly believe in evidence based nutritional therapy and am committed to furthering my own knowledge. As part of my Continuing Professional Development, I regularly attend conferences and seminars to gain further insight into specialised health topics.

Specialised Interests
I have a special interest in women’s health, mental health, sleep and stress management. I help clients to deal with stress and anxiety, which has a direct impact upon their day-to-day living, by equipping them with coping strategies.

I have a particular interest in Psychoneuroimmunology (PNI) which looks closely at the links between the brain, the nervous system and the immune system and how they impact upon each other. Psychoneuroimmunology gives us an idea of how stress and food can influence the body.

I am also very passionate about child health and the importance of eating well for both physical and mental development. The link between childhood illnesses and food is an ever growing concern. I advise, support and educate both children and their parents in order that positive improvements can be achieved.

My Philosophy
My aim is to help people make long-term improvements to their health. Health is about being happy and having the energy to enjoy life. Eating healthily does not mean food has to be boring. I eat real food and I love nothing more than eating out and enjoying myself (but I do everything in moderation).

I believe that changing eating habits is a lifestyle choice and not simply a quick fix diet. I teach my clients the importance of both physical and mental health.

I am passionate about sharing with others how rewarding it is to live healthily and feel like you are really thriving, not just surviving. I want you to be the best version of yourself.
